Schroer Herefords was established in 1974 when Lavern started adding registered females to their commercial Hereford herd. He purchased the L1 Domino 72006 herd sire in 1981, which was one of the best herd sires to ever come out of the Line One program at Ft. Keogh Research Station in Miles City, MT. Many herd sires over the years came from top Hereford breeders and then about 25 years ago, he started exclusively buying top bulls and females from Ft. Keogh. Today the herd is predominately all station line bred cattle. With the tight line-breeding, it gives extra heterosis to crossbreeding programs and even on outcross Hereford lines.
