The WSU Beef Cattle program is dedicated to developing cattle that excel under real-world conditions. Angus and Wagyu cattle must thrive in range and pasture conditions, calve unassisted, and rebreed efficiently, ensuring a low-maintenance, high-performing herd with longevity.

Bulls and heifers are developed on a high-forage ration for sound growth, structural integrity, and durability. Only those meeting strict standards for docility, fertility, and carcass merit are retained in the herd or make our sale offering. This focus on longevity ensures that WSU cattle remain productive for years, providing lasting value to breeding programs.

A key element of WSU’s program is student involvement. Students are involved in all aspects of cattle care, from breeding and health checks to weaning and finishing. Their work directly impacts herd success, while cattle sales help fund student involvement. This hands-on approach not only supports the next generation of industry leaders but also reinforces practical, cost-effective cattle management that benefits both students and the beef they produce.
